Wheels Are More Than Decoration
Alloy wheels are easy to overlook when you are focused on a dead engine or failed MOT. But wheels can affect both value and recovery. Alloy wheels before quote day should be mentioned because the buyer needs to know what the car is standing on.
A complete vehicle on four usable alloys is not the same as a car on flat tyres, mixed wheels, spare wheels or no wheels at all. Even if the car is only being scrapped, the wheel situation can shape the final offer.
Why Alloys Can Matter
Alloy wheels may have scrap value, parts value or practical loading value. Some sets are more desirable than others, depending on size, condition and model. Others may be damaged, corroded or too common to make much difference.
The point is not to assume every alloy set adds a big premium. The point is to avoid hiding a detail that affects the quote. If the buyer prices a car with alloys and then finds steel wheels fitted, the offer may change.
Wheel Swaps Should Be Declared
Many owners swap wheels before scrapping a car. Sometimes they keep the alloys for another vehicle, sell them separately or fit poor wheels just so the car can roll. That is allowed as a practical choice, but it should be declared before the offer is agreed.
Say what is fitted now, not what used to be fitted. If the photos show old alloys but the car now sits on different wheels, send new photos. Old pictures can cause avoidable friction at collection.
Tyres And Locking Nuts Can Slow Collection
Tyres matter because they affect whether the car can be moved. Four inflated tyres make recovery easier. Flat tyres, seized wheels, missing locking wheel nuts or damaged rims can make loading slower.
If the car has been standing in a yard or on a sloping street for months, the tyres may have gone soft without you noticing. A quick look before quote day can save a lot of guesswork. Do not try to move the car if it is unsafe; just describe what you see.
Missing Wheels Change The Job
A car with one or more wheels removed is a different recovery task. It may need skates, extra equipment or more time. It may also be worth less because the buyer receives less vehicle and may have fewer reusable parts.
This is especially important on tight Halifax streets or shared drives. A car on stands or sitting low to the ground can be awkward to load without enough space. Tell the buyer before the collection is booked.
Send Simple Wheel Photos
Clear side photos usually show the wheel type and tyre condition well enough. Add close-ups if a wheel is missing, badly damaged or different from the others. If locking wheel nuts are missing, mention that in writing.
When comparing scrap car prices, make sure every buyer knows the same wheel details. A quote based on four alloys and a quote based on missing wheels are not the same offer. A small amount of honesty here keeps the final handover much smoother.
